Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thick fries. Rinse them in cold water and pat dry with a paper towel.

  2. 2

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  3. 3

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the fries to the hot oil in batches and fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth.

  5. 5

    Batter the Cod

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

  6. 6

    Fry the Cod

Carefully add the battered cod to the hot oil and fry for about 4-6 minutes, or until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  7. 7

    Serve

Serve the fish and chips hot, optionally with tartar sauce and lemon wedges on the side.
