Potatoes

Method

Potato Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes into a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add 1 tsp of salt and bring to a boil. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Mash Potatoes

Once the potatoes are tender, drain them and return to the pot. Add the butter, heavy cream, remaining salt, and black pepper. Use a potato masher or a ricer to mash until smooth and creamy.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 4

    Melt Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once the butter is melted, add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes to create a roux.

  3. 6

    Add Chicken Broth

Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. 7

    Season Gravy

Add the salt and black pepper to the gravy, adjusting to taste. Remove from heat.
