Preparation Instructions

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, yogurt, and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape Naan

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into a disc.

  6. 6

    Cook Naan

Preheat a skillet or tandoor over high heat. Cook each naan for about 1-2 minutes on each side until puffed and golden brown.

  7. 7

    Flavor Variations

For flavored naan, add toppings such as sesame seeds, diced onions, minced garlic, ginger, fresh herbs, or cheese on top of the naan before cooking. For sweet naan, spread Nutella after cooking.

  8. 8

    Serve

Brush the cooked naan with melted butter and serve warm.
