Bolognese Sauce

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

Fill a large pot with water, add 1 tablespoon of salt, and bring it to a boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Drain and Set Aside

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside. Do not rinse.

Making the Bolognese Sauce

  1. 4

    Heat Olive Oil

In a large skillet or saucepan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Sauté Vegetables

Add the finely chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft.

  3. 6

    Add Garlic

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  4. 7

    Cook Ground Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  5. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Mix well.

  6. 9

    Season the Sauce

Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.

  7. 10

    Simmer

Lower the heat and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

  8. 11

    Serve

Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti and top with grated Parmesan cheese.
