Main Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pickles
Drain the pickles from their brine and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps the batter adhere better.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well to combine all the dry ingredients.
- 3
Add Buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk into the dry mixture and stir until a smooth batter forms. The batter should be thick enough to coat the pickles.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter in; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.
- 5
Coat the Pickles
Dip each pickle slice into the batter, making sure it is fully coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.
- 6
Fry the Pickles
Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried pickles from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
