Prepare the Oysters

Shuck the Oysters
Carefully shuck the fresh oysters, removing them from their shells and placing them in a bowl. Remove any shell fragments.
Make the Battering Mixture

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Mix well.

Fry the Oysters

Heat the Oil
In a large, deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Batter and Fry
Dip each shucked oyster into the wet mixture, then dredge it in the dry mixture until fully coated. Carefully place the battered oysters in the hot oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding.

Cook Until Golden
Fry the oysters for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
Prepare the Cocktail Sauce

Mix Ingredients
In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Stir until well mixed and adjust seasoning to taste.
Serve

Plate the Oysters
Serve the hot fried oysters on a platter with the cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
