Method

Preparation of Tuna Salad

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained canned tuna, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped celery, chopped red onion, salt, and black pepper. Stir until all ingredients are well combined.

  2. 2

    Add Cheese

Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese into the tuna mixture until evenly distributed.

Assembling the Tuna Melt

  1. 3

    Prepare Bread

Take the slices of sourdough or rye bread and spread softened butter on one side of each slice.

  2. 4

    Add Tuna Salad

On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, generously spread half of the tuna salad mixture.

  3. 5

    Top with Bread

Place another slice of bread on top of the tuna salad, buttered side facing out.

Cooking

  1. 6

    Grill the Sandwich

In a skillet or griddle over medium heat, place the assembled tuna melt sandwiches. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  2. 7

    Serve

Remove the sandwiches from the heat, slice in half and serve hot. Enjoy your delicious tuna melt!
