Method
Pasta Preparation
- 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat.
- 2
Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.
- 3
Once cooked, reserve 1 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta and set aside.
Sauce Preparation
- 4
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
- 5
Add the minced garlic and red chili flakes, sautéing for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 6
Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stir well, and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- 7
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 8
If the sauce becomes too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.
- 9
Once the sauce has thickened and flavors have melded, stir in the chopped basil.
Combine and Serve
- 10
Add the drained pasta to the sauce, tossing to combine and heat through.
- 11
Serve hot, garnished with additional basil and a sprinkle of parmesan if desired.
