Tofu Marinade

Method

Tofu Preparation

  1. 1

    Press the Tofu

Wrap the block of firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top to press out excess moisture for about 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Prepare Marinade

In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sriracha. Whisk until well combined.

  3. 3

    Marinate Tofu

Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1/2 inch slices. Place the slices in the marinade and let them soak for at least 30 minutes, turning halfway through.

  4. 4

    Grill Tofu

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the marinated tofu slices for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and slightly charred. Remove from the grill and set aside.

Assemble Banh Mi

  1. 5

    Prepare the Baguette

Slice the baguette lengthwise, leaving one edge intact to create a hinge.

  2. 6

    Spread Mayonnaise

Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on each side of the baguette.

  3. 7

    Add Vegetables

Layer the sliced cucumber, julienned carrot, and daikon radish inside the baguette.

  4. 8

    Add Grilled Tofu

Place the grilled tofu slices on top of the vegetables.

  5. 9

    Garnish

Top with chopped cilantro and sliced jalapeño for added flavor and spice.

  6. 10

    Serve

Close the baguette and press gently. Cut the sandwich in half and serve immediately.
