Tofu Preparation

Sweet Chili Sauce

Method

Tofu Preparation

  1. 1

    Drain and Press Tofu

Remove the tofu from its packaging and drain any excess water. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object on top (like a skillet) to press out moisture for about 15-20 minutes.

  2. 2

    Cut Tofu

Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangles, about 1 inch thick.

  3. 3

    Coat Tofu

In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. Toss the tofu pieces in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil's readiness by dropping a small piece of tofu into it; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.

  2. 5

    Fry Tofu

Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the tofu and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve

Arrange the crispy fried tofu on a serving plate and serve warm with sweet chili sauce drizzled on top or as a dipping sauce on the side.
