Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut the Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold running water to remove any dirt. Using a sharp knife, peel the potatoes and cut them into evenly sized sticks, approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks into a large bowl filled with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve crispier fries.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to check the temperature accurately.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potato sticks and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of dried potato sticks into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to ensure even coating.
