Method

Protein Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Protein

In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, fish sauce, minced garlic, and sugar. Add the pork belly or chicken thighs, ensuring they are well-coated. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight in the refrigerator for best flavor.

  2. 2

    Cook the Protein

Heat a pan over medium heat. Cook the marinated pork belly or chicken thighs for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked and slightly caramelized. Remove from heat and let rest before slicing.

Pickling Vegetables

  1. 3

    Prepare Pickled Vegetables

In a separate bowl, combine the julienned carrots and daikon radish. In a small saucepan, heat the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until the sugar dissolves. Pour the mixture over the vegetables and let sit for at least 30 minutes to pickle.

Assemble the Banh Mi

  1. 4

    Prepare the Baguette

Slice the baguette lengthwise without cutting all the way through. You can lightly toast it if desired.

  2. 5

    Spread Mayonnaise

Spread the mayonnaise evenly on both sides of the baguette.

  3. 6

    Add Protein and Vegetables

Layer the sliced protein, pickled vegetables, fresh cilantro, and sliced jalapeños inside the baguette.

  4. 7

    Serve

Cut the sandwich into manageable portions and serve immediately. Enjoy your Classic Banh Mi!
