Method

Preparation of Protein

  1. 1

    Marinate the Protein

In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, fish sauce, minced garlic, and sugar. Add your protein choice (pork, chicken, or tofu) and marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 2

    Cook the Protein

Heat a grill or pan over medium heat. Cook the marinated protein for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked. Remove from the heat and let rest.

Preparation of Vegetables

  1. 3

    Prepare the Vegetables

While the protein is marinating, julienne the carrot and daikon radish. Slice the cucumber. Rinse the cilantro and set aside.

Assembling the Banh Mi

  1. 4

    Slice the Baguette

Cut the baguette pieces in half lengthwise, without cutting all the way through, to create a pocket.

  2. 5

    Spread the Mayonnaise

Spread 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise inside each baguette half.

  3. 6

    Layer the Protein

Add slices of the cooked protein into the baguette pocket.

  4. 7

    Add Vegetables and Condiments

Layer the julienned carrots, daikon, and sliced cucumber on top of the protein. Add cilantro and drizzle with chili sauce if desired.

  5. 8

    Close and Serve

Close the baguette and serve immediately, or wrap in parchment paper for later.
