Prepare the Topping

Chop the Tomatoes
Wash the ripe tomatoes and dice them into small cubes. Place them in a mixing bowl.

Prepare the Basil
Wash the fresh basil leaves, pat them dry, and chop them finely. Add to the bowl with the tomatoes.

Mince the Garlic
Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves. Add to the tomato and basil mixture.

Mix Ingredients
Drizzle 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil and 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar over the mixture. Add 0.5 teaspoon of salt and black pepper to taste. Stir gently to combine all ingredients and let it sit for about 15 minutes for flavors to meld.

Slice the Bread
Cut the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.

Toast the Bread
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the bread slices on a baking sheet, oiled side up, and toast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Spoon the tomato mixture generously onto each slice of toasted bread.
