Dough Ingredients

Baking Soda Solution

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the activated yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until a dough begins to form.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. 6

    Prepare Baking Soda Solution

In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water to a boil. Add the baking soda carefully, stirring until dissolved.

  3. 7

    Shape Pretzels

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope, then twist it into a pretzel shape.

  4. 8

    Boil Pretzels

Using a slotted spoon, gently lower each pretzel into the boiling baking soda solution for about 30 seconds. Remove and place on the prepared baking sheets.

  5. 9

    Add Toppings

Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.

  6. 10

    Bake Pretzels

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Let them cool on a wire rack.
