Method
Dough Preparation
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm milk (around 110°F or 43°C), sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
Shape the Buns
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
Second Rise
Place the shaped buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving space between them. Cover and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat Oven
While the buns are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Prepare Egg Wash
In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with a tablespoon of water to create an egg wash. Brush this mixture over the tops of the buns.
Add Toppings
Sprinkle sesame seeds generously on top of the egg-washed buns.
Bake
Bake the buns in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Cooling and Serving
Cool
Remove the buns from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Serve
Enjoy the buns warm, or store them in an airtight container for later use.
