Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the spice mix

In a small bowl, combine paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Ahi tuna

Pat the Ahi tuna steaks dry with paper towels. Brush both sides of the steaks with olive oil, ensuring they are evenly coated.

  3. 3

    Season the steaks

Generously rub the spice mix onto both sides of the Ahi tuna steaks, pressing it in slightly to adhere.

Cooking

  1. 4

    Heat the skillet

Place a cast-iron skillet over high heat and allow it to heat up for about 5 minutes until very hot.

  2. 5

    Cook the Ahi tuna

Once the skillet is hot, carefully place the seasoned Ahi tuna steaks in the skillet. Cook for about 1-1.5 minutes on each side for rare doneness. The exterior should be blackened while the inside remains rare.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the dish

Remove the Ahi steaks from the skillet and let them rest for a minute. Serve immediately on a plate with steamed asparagus on the side. Garnish with lemon wedges for added flavor.
