Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chilies

Remove stems and seeds from the dried red chilies. Soak them in hot water for about 30 minutes until softened. Drain and blend into a paste with a little water.

  2. 2

    Cook the Brisket

In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add cubed brisket, season with salt and pepper, and brown on all sides.

  3. 3

    Add Aromatics

Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot, cooking until the onion is translucent.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Stir in the chili paste, canned tomatoes, beef broth, cumin, and chili powder. Bring to a simmer.

  5. 5

    Simmer the Chili

Reduce heat to low and let the chili simmer for at least 1.5 hours, stirring occasionally until the brisket is tender.

  6. 6

    Prepare the Cornbread

Preheat the oven according to the cornbread mix instructions. Combine cornbread mix, egg, and milk in a bowl until just mixed. Pour into a greased baking dish.

  7. 7

    Bake Cornbread

Bake cornbread according to package instructions until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Serve

Ladle the chili into bowls and serve hot with cornbread on the side.
