Method
Preparation
- 1
Cut the Potatoes
Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thick strips (approximately 1/2 inch wide) to create hand-cut fries.
- 2
Soak the Fries
Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.
- 3
Dry the Fries
Drain the soaked fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there's enough oil to fully submerge the fries.
- 5
Fry the Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of fries to the hot oil and fry them in batches. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Season
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and let them drain on paper towels. While still hot, season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
- 7
Serve
Serve the fries hot, either on their own or with your favorite dipping sauce.
