Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce Preparation

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 4 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of flour and whisk constantly for about 2 minutes until it's a light golden color.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, continuing to whisk until the mixture is smooth. Cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.

  3. 4

    Add Cheeses

Reduce the heat to low and stir in 2 cups of cheddar cheese and 4 oz of cream cheese. Stir until the cheeses melt and the sauce is creamy. Season with 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and 0.5 teaspoon of garlic powder.

Combine and Bake

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni and the cheese sauce. Mix well until all pasta is coated.

  2. 6

    Prepare Topping

In a separate bowl, mix together 1 cup of bread crumbs, 0.5 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter until well combined.

  3. 7

    Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
