Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the whole milk. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare the Frosting

In a large bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat until smooth. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy.

  2. 9

    Color the Frosting (Optional)

If desired, add food coloring to the frosting and mix until the desired color is achieved.

Assembling the Cake

  1. 10

    Layer the Cakes

Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top.

  2. 11

    Add the Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the frosted layer. Frost the top and sides of the entire cake.

  3. 12

    Decorate the Cake

If desired, decorate with fresh berries, chocolate shavings, or edible flowers.
