Crust Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
- 2
Chill the Dough
Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Filling Preparation
- 3
- 4
Add the Egg
Stir in the beaten egg until the filling is well combined.
Assembly
- 5
Prepare the Pie
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out half of the chilled dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the dough in the pie plate and fill with the pork mixture.
- 6
Top the Pie
Roll out the remaining dough to cover the pie. Seal the edges and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
- 7
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
Gravy Preparation
- 8
Make the Gravy
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth, then season with salt and pepper. Cook until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
Serving
- 9
Serve the Pork Pie
Once baked, let the pork pie cool for a few minutes. Cut into slices and serve topped with hot brown gravy.
