Cake Ingredients

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two large sheet cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue to beat until fluffy.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared sheet pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix on low speed until combined.

  2. 9

    Add Vanilla and Cream

Add the vanilla extract and heavy cream to the mixture. Beat on high speed until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  3. 10

    Add Food Coloring

If desired, add food coloring to achieve your preferred hue and mix until evenly distributed.

Assembly

  1. 11

    Frost the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving platter. Spread a generous amount of frosting on top, then place the second layer on top.

  2. 12

    Finish Frosting

Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting, smoothing it out with a spatula.

  3. 13

    Serve

Slice the cake into squares and serve to your guests. Enjoy your delicious frosted sheet cake!
