Buffalo Sauce (Optional)
Method
Preparation
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, hot sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. Add the chicken wings to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for best results.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a separate large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt. This will be used to coat the marinated chicken wings.
Cooking
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, deep pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Coat the Chicken Wings
Remove the marinated wings from the refrigerator. Allow excess marinade to drip off, then dredge each wing in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- 5
Fry the Wings
Carefully place the coated chicken wings into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry in batches for about 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove wings and drain them on a paper towel-lined plate.
- 6
Prepare Buffalo Sauce (Optional)
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine hot sauce and unsalted butter. Stir until the butter is melted and the sauce is well mixed. Toss the fried chicken wings in the sauce for the Buffalo style, if desired.
Serving
- 7
Serve the Wings
Serve the fried chicken wings hot with your favorite dipping sauces, celery sticks, and carrot sticks. Enjoy!
