Cake Layers

Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Cream Butter and Sugar

In another bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry mixture. Mix until just combined.

  6. 6

    Pour into Pans

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  8. 8

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 9

    Beat Butter

In a medium bowl, beat the softened unsalted butter until creamy.

  2. 10

    Add Sugar and Cream

Gradually add the powdered sugar, beating on low speed until combined. Then add the heavy cream and vanilla extract.

  3. 11

    Frosting Consistency

Beat on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy. If it's too thick, add more cream; if too thin, add more powdered sugar.

  4. 12

    Color the Frosting (optional)

If desired, add food coloring to achieve your desired shade and mix until evenly colored.

Assembly

  1. 13

    Layer the Cakes

Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a cake plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top.

  2. 14

    Add the Second Layer

Place the second layer on top of the frosted first layer.

  3. 15

    Frost the Cake

Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake.
