Pasta

Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Water

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of salted water to a rolling boil.

  2. 2

    Cook the Macaroni

Add 2 cups of macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Stir occasionally.

  3. 3

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, drain the macaroni in a colander and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 4

    Melt the Butter

In the same pot used for the pasta, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 5

    Add Flour

Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute until golden, stirring constantly to avoid burning.

  3. 6

    Pour in Milk

Gradually add 2 cups of milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Cook for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.

  4. 7

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Once thickened, reduce heat to low and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 1 teaspoon of mustard powder until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combining

  1. 8

    Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce

Add the drained macaroni back into the pot with the cheese sauce. Stir well until all pasta is coated in the creamy cheese sauce.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the macaroni and cheese hot, optionally garnished with extra cheese, black pepper, or breadcrumbs on top.
