Method

Crust Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the diced chilled butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 2

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.

  3. 3

    Chill the Dough

Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare the Filling

In a separate bowl, combine the fresh blueberries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Gently toss to coat the blueberries evenly.

  2. 5

    Set Aside

Let the filling mixture sit for about 10 minutes to allow the blueberries to release some juice.

Assemble the Pie

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 7

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place the dough into the pan and trim any excess.

  3. 8

    Add the Filling

Pour the blueberry filling into the prepared crust, spreading it evenly.

Topping Preparation

  1. 9

    Make the Topping

In a bowl, combine rolled oats, brown sugar, melted butter, chopped nuts (if using), and salt. Mix until combined.

  2. 10

    Add Topping to Pie

Sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the blueberry filling.

Baking

  1. 11

    Bake the Pie

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  2. 12

    Cool Before Serving

Allow the pie to cool for at least 15 minutes before serving to let the filling set.
