Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Cut Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut each potato into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips into a large bowl filled with cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier texture.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, deep pot or a deep fryer, pour in 4 cups of vegetable oil. Heat the oil to 350°F (175°C) over medium-high heat. Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully place a handful of the dried potato strips into the hot oil. Do not overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until the fries are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  4. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, garlic powder, and paprika to taste. Toss gently to coat the fries evenly with the seasoning.

  5. 7

    Serve

Serve the French fries hot, with your favorite dipping sauces if desired.
