Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until well combined.

Combine Mixtures
Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

Heat Oil
In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

Fry Hushpuppies
Using a tablespoon, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches, cooking for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Drain and Serve
Remove hushpuppies from the oil with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with honey drizzled over or on the side.
