Cheese Sticks
Marinara Sauce
Method
Preparing the Cheese Sticks
- 1
Set Up Breading Station
Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- 2
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Dip each mozzarella stick first into the flour, ensuring it is coated, then into the egg, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs onto the cheese to ensure they stick well.
- 3
Chill the Coated Sticks
Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes. This helps the cheese stay intact while frying.
Frying the Cheese Sticks
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Do not overcrowd the pan.
- 6
Drain the Sticks
Remove the fried mozzarella sticks with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Making the Marinara Sauce
- 7
- 8
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Finish with Basil
Remove from heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Serving
- 10
Serve Hot
Serve the crispy mozzarella sticks hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
