Mushroom Preparation

Method

Mushroom Preparation

  1. 1

    Clean and Prepare Mushrooms

Thoroughly clean the fresh mushrooms under cold running water. Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Remove the stems if necessary and slice them into halves or quarters depending on their size.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In a shallow bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. In another bowl, beat the egg and mix in the milk. Place the breadcrumbs in a third shallow bowl.

  3. 3

    Bread the Mushrooms

Take each mushroom piece, first dip it in the flour mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated. Then, dip it in the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off. Finally, coat it in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the crumbs adhere.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large frying pan or deep-fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles and turns golden brown, the oil is ready.

  2. 5

    Fry the Mushrooms

Carefully add a few breaded mushrooms to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.

  3. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried mushrooms hot, optionally with your favorite dipping sauce such as aioli or marinara.
