Method
Preparation of Main Ingredients
- 1
Slice the Prime Rib
Using a sharp knife, thinly slice the smoked prime rib against the grain. Aim for slices that are about 1/4 inch thick.
- 2
Prepare the Baguette
Slice the French baguette or hoagie rolls in half lengthwise. If preferred, lightly toast them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes until golden.
- 3
Add Cheese and Horseradish
On one side of each baguette or hoagie roll, spread the horseradish sauce. Layer the thinly sliced prime rib on top, and then add Swiss cheese slices.
Preparation of Au Jus
- 4
Combine Ingredients
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
- 5
Simmer the Au Jus
Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
Assembly and Serving
- 6
Melt the Cheese
If desired, place the assembled sandwiches under the broiler for a couple of minutes until the Swiss cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 7
Serve with Au Jus
Serve the French dip sandwiches with a small bowl of au jus on the side for dipping. Enjoy!
