Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Form the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and divide into two equal portions. Form each portion into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for another 3 minutes.

Cooking the Toppings

  1. 3

    Cook the Bacon

In a separate skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels. Reserve some bacon fat in the skillet for cooking the mushrooms.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Mushrooms

In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the mushrooms and sauté until they are golden brown and tender, about 5-7 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

  3. 5

    Add Fried Onions

Once the mushrooms are cooked, add the fried onions to the skillet and mix well to combine. Heat through for an additional 1-2 minutes.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 6

    Melt the Cheese

Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of each patty after flipping them. Cover the skillet with a lid for 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.

  2. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each burger bun, place the cheese-topped patty, then layer with the sautéed mushrooms and fried onions. Top with the crispy bacon and close with the top half of the bun.
