Toppings and Bread

Method

Burger Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions (about 0.25 lb each) and form each portion into a patty, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

Cooking the Burger

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Preheat your grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side until browned and juices start to run. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer to reach your desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Cheese

In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover to melt.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Prepare the Buns

While the cheese is melting, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, and any desired amount of ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.
