Pickled Shrimp Cocktail Recipe

Method

Cooking the Shrimp

    Prepare Boiling Liquid

    In a large pot, combine 4 cups of water, 1 tablespoon of Old Bay seasoning, and 1 tablespoon of salt.

    Boil Water

    Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.

    Cook Shrimp

    Add the shrimp to the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until they turn pink and opaque.

    Cool Shrimp

    Drain the shrimp and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process.

Preparing the Pickling Liquid

    Combine Ingredients

    In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, 1 cup of water, and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar.

    Add Spices

    Add the smashed garlic cloves, black peppercorns, bay leaves, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan.

    Simmer Pickling Liquid

    Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

    Cool Pickling Liquid

    Remove from heat and let the pickling liquid cool to room temperature.

Pickling the Shrimp

    Combine Shrimp and Pickling Liquid

    In a large bowl, combine the cooled shrimp and the pickling liquid.

    Refrigerate

    Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Making the Cocktail Sauce

    Combine Sauce Ingredients

    In a small bowl, mix together 1 cup of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of horseradish, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce.

    Season the Sauce

    Add hot sauce and salt to taste, stirring until well combined.

Serving

    Drain Pickled Shrimp

    Remove the shrimp from the refrigerator and drain the pickling liquid.

    Plate and Serve

    Serve the pickled shrimp with the cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
