Method

Preparing the Filling

  1. 1

    Mix Apple Filling

In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Set aside to let the flavors meld.

Making the Crust

  1. 2

    Prepare the Crust

In a food processor, combine the all-purpose flour, chilled cubed butter, granulated sugar, and salt. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball. Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 3

    Roll Out the Dough

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). On a floured surface, roll out one disk of dough into a circle large enough to fit your pie dish. Place the rolled dough into the dish and trim any excess. Fill with the prepared apple mixture.

Creating the Topping

  1. 4

    Prepare the Topping

In a mixing bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, melted butter, chopped walnuts, and ground cinnamon. Stir until all the ingredients are well combined.

  2. 5

    Assemble the Pie

Spread the oat mixture evenly over the apple filling in the pie crust.

Baking the Pie

  1. 6

    Bake

Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.
