Method

Preparing the Clams

  1. 1

Rinse the clams under cold running water to remove any sand or debris. Use a brush if necessary to scrub the shells gently.

  2. 2

Soak the clams in a bowl of cold water for about 20 minutes to help them expel any remaining sand.

  3. 3

After soaking, drain the water and rinse the clams again.

Cooking the Clams

  1. 4

    Steaming the Clams

In a large pot, add 1 inch of water and bring it to a boil. Place the cleaned clams in a steamer basket and set it over the boiling water.

  2. 5

Cover the pot with a lid and steam the clams for about 5-7 minutes, or until the clams have opened up. Discard any clams that remain closed.

Making Drawn Butter

  1. 6

    Preparing the Butter

In a small saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over low heat.

  2. 7

Add minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  3. 8

Stir in the chopped fresh parsley, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Remove from heat.

Serving

  1. 9

Transfer the steamed clams to a serving platter.

  2. 10

Serve the clams warm with the drawn butter on the side for dipping.
