Oysters

For Steaming (Optional)

For Grilling (Optional)

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Cleaning the Oysters

Rinse the fresh oysters under cold running water to remove any sand or grit. Use a brush to scrub the shells if necessary.

  2. 2

    Shucking the Oysters

Using an oyster knife, carefully insert the knife into the hinge of the oyster shell. Twist the knife to pop the shell open, then slide the knife along the inside of the top shell to detach the oyster from the shell. Keep the liquor (the liquid inside) in the bottom shell.

Serving Raw

  1. 3

    Plating the Oysters

Place the opened oysters on a serving platter over crushed ice. Serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Steaming (Optional)

  1. 4

    Prepare the Steamer

In a pot, add water, white wine, crushed garlic cloves, and herbs. Bring to a boil.

  2. 5

    Steam the Oysters

Once the water is boiling, place the oysters in a steamer basket and set it over the pot. Cover and steam for about 5-7 minutes, until the oysters are opened.

  3. 6

    Serving Steamed Oysters

Remove the steamed oysters from the pot and serve them on a platter with lemon wedges.

Grilling (Optional)

  1. 7

    Preheat the Grill

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

  2. 8

    Prepare the Oysters

Brush the opened oysters with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 9

    Grill the Oysters

Place the oysters on the grill, shell side down. Grill for about 5-7 minutes or until the edges start to curl and the oysters are cooked through.

  4. 10

    Serving Grilled Oysters

Remove the grilled oysters from the grill and serve immediately with lemon wedges.
