Method

Shrimp Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Shrimp

In a medium bowl, combine the raw shrimp, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat the shrimp evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Breading

  1. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

In three separate shallow bowls, set up your breading station: one with all-purpose flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with bread crumbs mixed with cornstarch and paprika. Make sure to season each station lightly with salt and pepper.

  2. 3

    Bread the Shrimp

Remove the marinated shrimp from the refrigerator. Dredge each shrimp first in flour, shaking off the excess, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the bread crumb mixture. Place the breaded shrimp on a baking sheet and repeat until all shrimp are coated.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it bubbles and browns, the oil is hot enough.

  2. 5

    Fry the Shrimp

Carefully add the breaded shrimp in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 6

    Serve the Shrimp

Plate the fried popcorn shrimp and serve immediately with lemon wedges and cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
