Calamari
Marinara Sauce
Method
Fried Calamari Preparation
- 1
- 2
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes. Once done, stir in the chopped basil and set aside.
- 3
Marinate the Calamari
In a bowl, combine the buttermilk and calamari rings. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- 4
Prepare the Breading
In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, cornstarch, salt, paprika, and garlic powder.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a deep pot or fryer, heat the oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Bread the Calamari
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk and allow excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture until evenly coated.
- 7
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- 8
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried calamari from the oil and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with the marinara sauce on the side.
