Preparation
1. Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the Yukon Gold potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks, approximately 1-2 inches.
2. Prepare the Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and set them aside.
Cooking
3. Boil Potatoes
Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a teaspoon of salt and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and cook for about 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
4. Boil Garlic
In the last 5 minutes of boiling the potatoes, add the garlic cloves to the pot to soften them.
5. Drain and Mash
Once the potatoes and garlic are cooked, drain them in a colander and return them to the pot. Using a potato masher or a ricer, mash the potatoes and garlic together until smooth.
6. Add Butter and Cream
Incorporate the unsalted butter and heavy cream into the mashed potatoes, mixing until creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
