Crispy Shrimp Katsu
Creamy Honey Aioli
Method
Crispy Shrimp Katsu
- 1
Prepare the Shrimp
Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels. This step is important to ensure the breading sticks well.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour, beaten eggs, and panko breadcrumbs. Season the flour with salt and black pepper.
- 3
Bread the Shrimp
Dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off the excess. Dip it in the beaten eggs, then coat it thoroughly with the panko breadcrumbs. Press the breadcrumbs onto the shrimp to ensure they adhere.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers. You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small piece of bread into the oil; if it sizzles, it’s ready.
- 5
Fry the Shrimp
Carefully add the breaded shrimp to the hot oil in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
- 6
Drain and Serve
Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately.
Creamy Honey Aioli
- 7
Mix Ingredients
In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, honey, minced garlic, and lemon juice. Stir until well blended.
- 8
Season to Taste
Add salt and black pepper to taste. Adjust the seasoning according to your preference.
- 9
Chill and Serve
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the aioli for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
