Baba au rhum Ingredients

Method

Baba au rhum Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the dough

In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the foamy yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until a smooth dough forms.

  3. 3

    First rise

Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  4. 4

    Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Shape the babas

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into small pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them into greased baba molds or a muffin tin.

  6. 6

    Second rise

Cover the molds and let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.

  7. 7

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

  8. 8

    Prepare the rum syrup

In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and stir in the dark rum.

  9. 9

    Soak the babas

Once the babas are baked, let them cool slightly. Then, soak them in the warm rum syrup for about 5 minutes, ensuring they absorb enough syrup.

  10. 10

    Serve

Serve the babas warm or at room temperature, optionally topped with whipped cream or fruits.
