Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Pasta

In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Add 1 tsp of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Mostaccioli

Add 2 cups of mostaccioli pasta to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Meat Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Cook Ground Beef

In a large skillet, brown 1 lb of ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.

  2. 4

    Sauté Vegetables

Add 1 chopped medium onion and 3 minced garlic cloves to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Spices

Stir in 28 oz of crushed tomatoes, 15 oz of tomato sauce, 1 tsp of dried oregano, 1 tsp of dried basil, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of black pepper, and 1 tsp of sugar. Let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cheese Mixture Preparation

  1. 6

    Mix Cheese Ingredients

In a bowl, combine 15 oz of ricotta cheese, 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, 1 large egg, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of black pepper. Mix well until smooth.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 7

    Layer Ingredients

In a large baking dish, layer half of the cooked mostaccioli, half of the meat sauce, and half of the cheese mixture. Repeat the layers with the remaining pasta, sauce, and cheese mixture.

  2. 8

    Add Topping

Spread 2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top of the layered mostaccioli. Sprinkle with 1 tbs of chopped fresh parsley.

  3. 9

    Bake

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  4. 10

    Cool and Serve

Let the mostaccioli tray cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Slice and enjoy!
