Cook the Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the jumbo shells and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, basil, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Stuff the Shells
Carefully stuff each cooked shell with the ricotta mixture using a spoon or piping bag.

Prepare the Sauce and Bake
Spread 1 cup of tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish. Place the stuffed shells on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the shells. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese and place meatballs or sausage on top.

Bake
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serve
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil if desired.
