Fried Calamari Ingredients

Method

Fried Calamari Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Coating

In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure an even distribution of spices.

  2. 2

    Coat the Calamari

Add the cleaned squid rings to the bowl with the flour mixture. Toss well to ensure all the calamari are evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small amount of the flour mixture in; if it sizzles, the oil is ready.

  4. 4

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari in small batches to the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with lemon wedges and marinara sauce for dipping.
