Brewing Directions
- 1
Mashing
In a large mash tun, heat 5 gallons of water to approximately 165°F (74°C). Add the Munich malt, caramel malt, and pilsner malt. Stir well and maintain the temperature at around 150°F (65°C) for 60 minutes.
- 2
Sparging
After mashing, sparge the grains with hot water to collect the wort. Collect around 5 gallons of wort for boiling.
- 3
Boiling
Bring the wort to a boil and add the noble hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding more hops at the 30-minute mark if desired for additional bitterness.
- 4
Cooling
After the boil, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches around 70°F (21°C).
- 5
Fermentation
Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermentation vessel, add the yeast, and seal with an airlock. Ferment at around 50°F (10°C) for 2-3 weeks.
- 6
Bottling
Once fermentation is complete, mix the priming sugar with a small amount of boiling water to dissolve, then add it to the beer before bottling. Bottle the beer and cap it. Allow it to carbonate for 1-2 weeks.
- 7
Enjoy
Once carbonated, chill your Oktoberfest beer and enjoy it with friends or at your next celebration!
