Meatballs and Sauce

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Make the Meatballs

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined. Form mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.

  2. 2

    Cook the Meatballs

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Sauce

In the same skillet, add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and sugar. Stir and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Combine Meatballs and Sauce

Return the meatballs to the skillet and coat them in the sauce. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Casserole

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a baking dish, place the meatballs and sauce. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

  6. 6

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

  7. 7

    Serve

Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve open-faced on toasted bread or as desired.
