Method

Preparation Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Mac & Cheese

Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. In a saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted. Combine the cheese sauce with the cooked macaroni and season with salt and pepper.

  2. 2

    Caramelize the Onions

Slice the onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook slowly until they are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 3

    Cook the Burger

Form the ground brisket and chuck mix into 4 equal patties, seasoning each with salt and pepper. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium doneness. In the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on top of each patty to melt.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Burger

Scoop out portions of the mac and cheese to form two 'buns' for each burger. Place one mac and cheese bun on a plate, add the burger patty with melted cheese, top with caramelized onions and lettuce, then finish with the second mac and cheese bun.
