Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Preparing the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer or sparkling water until the batter is smooth and well-blended.
- 2
Heating the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 3
Battering the Fish
Dip each haddock fillet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
- 4
Frying the Fish
Carefully place the battered fish fillets into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Cooking the French Fries
While frying the fish, cook the frozen French fries according to package instructions, either in the oven or in a deep fryer.
- 6
Preparing the Coleslaw
In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix with the coleslaw dressing. Toss well to coat and set aside.
- 7
Serving
Plate the fried haddock alongside the French fries and a generous serving of coleslaw. Enjoy your fish fry!
